Thanks to their understanding of
nature and its cycles, the Chinese developed the theory of the 5
Elements, which is the base of all their medical traditions (acupuncture,
pharmacology, nutrition), their energetic gymnastics (Chi Gong,
Tai Chi Chuan), their astrology, their calendar.
These 5 Elements are Wood,
Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Clockwise, each feeds the next one:
that is the supporting cycle.

The control cycle brings clashes
between the elements. For example, Metal cuts Wood. Introducing
the middle man, such as Water here, will stop the conflict and bring
the supporting cycle back.
